Updates!

Dear 4T Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful February vacation! We had a great week in 4T. Here is a peek at some of the learning we did.

Reading: We began our second round of social issue book clubs. Again, please encourage your child to talk about their reading at home with you. The issues they are reading about are problems that everyone experiences and provide great opportunities for discussions.

Science: We spent time exploring light and sound.  We created sound waves with jump ropes and explored how light travels through a variety of materials.

Math: We began learning all about fractions. This week we used manipulates and number lines to investigate equivalent fractions. We also used Skittles to help us understand fractions!

Writing: Students are in the middle of writing books all about the Industrial Revolution. Students are working with a partner on their book and I am excited for their finished product. They will upload them to Seesaw for you to see!

We had a Mystery Skype with a class from Texas.

We also did our first Breakout EDU which is an educational version of the popular Escape Rooms. Be sure to ask your child about their experience!

Please remember to send in the Lowell permission slip forms.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Tingle

Top Ten Things to Know About Fenway Park

Dear 4T Families,
Please read the list below from Mr. Gagnon about our field trip to Fenway Park. Thanks!

The Top Ten Things to Know About the 4th Grade Field Trip to Fenway Park on Thursday, April 6

  1. Students and adults will be asked to arrive at SMS at 7:00 a.m. Students will bring disposable bagged lunches and snacks (The cafeteria crew can also provide bagged lunches).
  2. Information about chaperone opportunities will come out soon when we know how many slots are available. Chaperones will have to ride on the bus to and from Fenway.
  3. There will be three STEM stations for the students to cycle through during the morning.
  4. Only one student from each school can participate in the egg drop off the Green Monster. We will have our own school competition to determine the student who gets to drop from the Green Monster.
  5. Participation in the egg drop is totally optional and construction of the apparatus will be completed at home. Students constructing an apparatus need to follow the guidelines listed on the “Heads Up” announcement that was sent home on Tuesday, March 6.
  6. We have scheduled our school egg drop competition for Thursday, March 23rd. Students participating should bring in their apparatus with an uncooked egg in it on that day.
  7. The game against the Pirates begins at 1:35, and we will stay until 3:30. We will not be visiting the concession or souvenir stands during our time at Fenway.
  8. We are aiming to be back at SMS by 5:00.
  9. Questions can be directed to Steve Gagnon at sgagnon@sau16.org
  10. This trip is made possible through the generous support of the Stratham Memorial School PTO
