Updates!

Last week seemed to fly by with the early release and no school on Friday!

We began Smarter Balance testing on Tuesday so our week was a bit different than most. We will continue to test this week. Thank you for making sure your child was at school on time this past week. Please make sure they arrive by 8:30 this week as well.

In reading we began preparing for our debate on whether the Industrial Revolution was a positive or negative time in our history. Ask your child what side they are on!

In writing, we studied informational books to learn different strategies authors use for writing. We also began to write our introduction of our Industrial Revolution book.

In math we learned about symmetrical figures, solved number stories, and practiced measuring angles.  We will have our Unit 5 math test this Wednesday.

Thank you to those who signed up for parent teacher conferences. Here is the link again

The 4th grade raised over $3,000 for St. Jude Children's Hospital!

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!

This week we will be starting Smarter Balance. We will be testing on Tuesday-Thursday starting at 8:45.  It would be so appreciated if you can make sure your child is at school by 8:30 so that we can start right on time.

Thursday if a half-day and Friday there is no school.

The St. Jude Math-a-Thon sponsor envelopes are due on Tuesday, March 15th.

A Peek Into Our Week

Reading: Last week we began studying the Industrial Revolution. We have been learning about child labor, transportation, inventions, and daily life during this time. After learning background information, students chose a topic that interests them the most to research in-depth. Ask you child what topic they chose and what they have learned so far!

Math- We spent time this week adding hundredths and tenths, creating line plots, and learning about angles. Students created line plots by measuring their wingspan, the circumference of their heads, and how far they can jump. Many students also learned how to use a protractor to measure angles for the first time.

Social Studies: We finished up our unit on government by creating a board game. Each game had to have at least 25 questions about our New Hampshire government. The students did a great job using their creativity to make the games.

Writing: In writing we spent time learning how to respond to text using a topic sentence, evidence, and a conclusion. Students read several articles about school lunches and learned that many schools require students to buy lunch at school. After considering each side, students wrote an essay on their opinion using evidence from the articles they read. Ask you child what side they chose and why.

We had reading buddies on Friday which is always so much fun!

During the next two weeks while we are testing, we will not have do word work. There will be no spelling city assignments for homework.

That is all for now! I look forward to seeing you all at our parent teacher conferences.
